Report: Tottenham lead the race for highly-rated defender

As things currently stand, Tottenham Hotspur look set to lose Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen on free transfers at the end of the season when their contracts run out.

West Bromwich Albion defender, Nathan Ferguson is also set to become a free agent at the end of this season and Tottenham now reportedly lead the race for his signature (Mirror).

The Baggies may be forced into a January sale in order to cash in on the highly-rated starlet who is also being looked at by Crystal Palace, as well as other Premier League clubs and ‘members of Europe’s elite’.

The Baggies have reportedly offered the 19-year-old a new five-year contract earlier in the season, but he has yet to put pen to paper on such a deal.

Spurs have struggled at right-back of late, with Kieran Trippier being sold in the summer and the current crop of Aurier and Walker-Peters not performing to the required standard.
