Report: Tottenham leading race to sign highly-rated teenage striker this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are favourites to sign highly-rated Sunderland striker Joe Hugill when the transfer market opens in the summer, according to a report in the Sun.

While Hugill is yet to make his senior debut for Sunderland’s first-team, his performances for the youth sides this season have got multiple teams to take notice of the youngster.

Spurs scout Ian Broomfield is said to have watched the youngster last week and given the green light for Spurs to make a move for him in the summer.

The report alleges that the Lilywhites will face competition from Everton for the striker’s signature after the Toffees’ scouts were also impressed with the teenager’s displays. However, it is Tottenham who are said to be front-runners to land him as things stand.

The 16-year-old is yet to commit his long-term future to the Black Cats, and it is claimed that Spurs will try to take advantage of the situation and nab him this summer.
