Report: Tottenham leading the race to sign Newcastle player this summer

According to The Sunday Mirror (30/4; page 76), Tottenham Hotspur are the frontrunners to snap up Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.

While Saint-Maximin is widely considered to be one of the best ball carriers in the Premier League, his lack of end product has, at times, left Newcastle fans quite frustrated.

The pacy wide-man has seen himself fall down Eddie Howe’s pecking order this season, coming on as a substitute for more than half of his 20 Premier League appearances this campaign (Transfermarkt).

The Mirror have now revealed that Tottenham made enquiries for Saint-Maximin during the January transfer window and remain keen on snapping up the player this summer.

The report claims that AC Milan are also interested in the Frenchman but it is Spurs who are now leading the race for his signature.

The publication adds that the Magpies are expected to demand a fee of around £50m for the 26-year-old this summer.

I suspect that both Saint-Maximin and Adama Traore were Fabio Paratici targets as the Italian seemed to be a fan of such effective ball carriers.

It remains to be seen whether the Frenchman would still be on Spurs’ wishlist now that neither Paratici nor Antonio Conte are at the club.
