Report: Tottenham looking at France international as attacking reinforcement

According to a report in The Times, Tottenham Hotspur may look to sign Marcus Thuram on a free transfer in the summer as they look to bolster their left side.

Thuram has been with Borussia Monchengladbach since the summer of 2019 and has racked up 124 appearances over the last four years. He has 42 goals and 26 assists for the Bundesliga side during that time (Transfermarkt).

The Frenchman is enjoying a fruitful campaign this year, with 14 goals and four assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, it appears this will be Thuram’s final campaign with Gladbach as the 25-year-old has signalled his intention to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires.

With this in mind, Thuram has been linked to a number of top European clubs, with Spurs previously reported as being high on the list of potential suitors (90 min), along with Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

It is thought Thuram could be an option for Spurs this summer to provide competition on the left side of Antonio Conte’s attack.

The report from The Times claims Thuram “rejected the offer of a new contract” at Gladbach. It is suggested Inter Milan are the latest club to pursue the player, but the Serie A side are “concerned they may not be able to match the wages offered by Premier League clubs.”

Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus told German broadcaster Sport1: “We have to accept it’s the even bigger clubs where Marcus might go. The fact that players will leave us for free is not a positive situation and I can’t sugarcoat it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I can think of far worse signings than taking Marcus Thuram on a free transfer this summer.

He’s strong, athletic, and has an eye for goal and could offer something a little different to what we currently have in our attacking roster.
