Report: Tottenham made contact with PSG over midfielder at Conte’s request

According to Todo Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain regarding the availability of Idrissa Gueye.

Gueye has fallen down Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking order at PSG this season and the midfielder has just 12 months left on his contract with the Parisians (Transfermarkt).

Jeunes Footeux were the first to report last week that Spurs were eyeing a move for the former Everton man.

This has now been backed up by Todo Fichajes, who claim that Conte wants to add a defensive midfielder to the squad and has identified Gueye as his preferred option.

The report claims that the 32-year-old would add ‘strength’ to the Spurs midfield and he is viewed as a ‘safe’ option by the North London club since he has Premier League experience and would thus not require a long period of adaptation.

Todo Fichajes add that Spurs have already held talks with PSG over the Senegal international, who is valued at €15m (£12.7m).

However, following the reported interest from Spurs, Idrissa Gueye has become wrapped up in controversy after he reportedly missed PSG’s latest match because he allegedly refused to wear the rainbow shirt designed to promote LGBTQI+ rights (BBC) – which the French Football Federation is currently investigating.

It remains to be seen what the FFF investigation concludes, what Gueye himself states, and whether Tottenham would still be interested in him after recent events.
