Report: Tottenham make £16m offer for international midfielder

According to Goal.com, Tottenham have made a bid of around £16million for Flamengo midfielder Gerson.

The 23-year-old has managed to resurrect his career at Flamengo after his less than inspiring spell in the Serie A with Roma and Fiorentina.

The report claims that the Brazilian giants will reject Tottenham’s initial offer for the midfielder.

It is revealed that although the club are keen to sell some players to ease financial distress caused by the coronavirus pandemic, manager Jorge Jesus is said to have demanded that the club hangs on to their key players after he decided to extend his contract at the club.

Flamengo are set to meet to their manager’s wish and reject the offer from the Champions League finalists.

The report suggests that Gerson is happy for his club to reject Tottenham’s advances since he is keen to stay at the Estádio da Gávea.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think it would be fair to judge Gerson from his time in the Serie A as the move came too soon for him and he struggled to settle. Given that we need a defensive midfielder, he is certainly someone who seems like he will be a good fit. However, the transfer will come with much more risk than buying someone like Hojbjerg, who is proven in the Premier League.
