Report: Tottenham make 24-year-old priority signing this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made signing Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan a priority this summer, according to a report by Tuttosport (as relayed by Tribal Football).

Maignan, who worked with current Tottenham goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos during his time at Lille, has been in fantastic form between the sticks for the Ligue 1 side for the past few seasons.

Le10Sport reported back in April that Jose Mourinho was a fan of Maignan while La Voix du Nord reported last month that Lille are expecting to lose the 24-year-old this summer.

Tuttosport now claim that the French shot-stopper is at the top of Spurs’ shopping list this summer, with Mourinho having identified him as Lloris’ long-term replacement.

It is claimed that Tottenham want to land the Lille star this summer and that he will initially serve as Lloris’ understudy before eventually replacing the Tottenham captain as the club’s number one.

It is suggested that the only possible stumbling block to the deal could be that Maignan may not be open to sitting on the bench at Spurs next season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Nuno Santos and Joao Sacramento will both know Maignan well having worked with him closely at Lille and so it is not a major surprise to see us linked with the 24-year-old. However, I believe that Lloris still has a few years left in him, and I do not view signing a potential first-choice goalkeeper this summer as a priority for Spurs.
