Report: Tottenham make 24-year-old their top midfield target this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have made Southampton midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, their number one transfer target this summer, according to a report from Football Insider.

Spurs were linked with Hojbjerg during the January transfer window (Sky Sports) but a move never materialised. However, the Telegraph have since backed the North Londoners to return for the midfielder’s services this summer.

The 24-year-old, who has been a consistent performer in the heart of the Saints midfield since moving to the south coast, seemingly issued a come and get me plea last week by revealing that he wants to play at a higher level (Sport 1).

Football Insider now reveals that the former Bayern Munich man is at the top of Tottenham’s wish list this summer.

The midfielder is said to have rejected multiple attempts by Southampton to extend his contract, with his current deal set to expire next summer.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are thus said to have encouraged Spurs to make an offer for him, although their asking price has not been mentioned.

Spurs Web Opinion

Signing a combative defensive midfielder this summer is a must for us. Hojbjerg wouldn’t have been my first choice under normal circumstances but given the financial constraints we are facing, it will be a wasted opportunity not to go for him. While he is not going to set the world alight in North London, he will certainly be a solid addition.
