Report: Tottenham make approach for French defender

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to sign a defender this summer despite already losing Kieran Trippier along with the potential risk of Danny Rose also departing (The Express).

Toby Alderweireled has also been linked with a move away from the club but his asking price has reportedly been increased after his transfer release clause expired late last month (the Telegraph).

With Alderweireld looking as if he could be set to stay for at least one more season, Tottenham do not need urgent reinforcements at the heart of defence.

However, Spurs have been linked with a few young centre-halves this summer including the likes of Joachim Anderson (Evening Standard) and William Saliba, who ended up joining Lyon and Arsenal respectively (the Sun).

TF1 football journalist Julien Maynard claims that Tottenham are one of three Premier League clubs to be interested in young Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile.

The report claims that Tottenham along with Southampton and Wolves have enquired about 18-year-old Badiashile, who made 20 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco last season.

However, it is suggested that Monaco Director General Oleg Petrov has no intention of selling the player this summer.

Even if Spurs are to get someone like Badiashile in, he would be one for the future like Jack Clarke, rather than someone who can immediately improve the team. With Alderweireld and Vertonghen both getting on a bit, it makes sense for the club to plan for the future by getting in younger defenders.
