Report: Tottenham make contact with Ligue 1 striker’s entourage

According to reports from France, Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in signing Rennes striker Mbaye Niang in the summer.

L’Equipe (as relayed by GFFN) report that the forward is generating interest from clubs in France as well as Spurs.

The Lilywhites are rumoured to have positioned themselves to land the 25-year-old this summer after holding talks with his representatives.

Niang has been impressed at Rennes after signing permanently from Torino last summer following a loan spell at the club during the 2017/18 season.

The centre-forward netted fifteen goals in all competitions this season before the season ended prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic (tranfermarkt.com).

It is revealed that the striker is looking to leave Rennes this summer with Marseille mentioned as his preferred destination.

The report claims that the Senegal international is not likely to get as much game time at Spurs in compared to Marseille, where Andre Villas-Boas has reportedly promised him that he would be a starter.

It is suggested that Niang is available for around €30million but that Marseille could have issues in meeting the asking price.

Spurs Web Opinion

This seems like quite a strange transfer link considering only Tottenham’s name is mentioned as a potential suitor outside France. While he could do a job as a back up to Kane, I would be extremely surprised if he is anywhere near the top of our list of striker targets.
