Report: Tottenham make enquiry about signing £34m-rated midfielder

Tottenham have made an enquiry to Sporting about potentially signing Matheus Nunes, according to yesterday’s print edition of Portuguese newspaper O Jogo (14/02/22).

Nunes has emerged as a dependable option in midfield since securing a move from Estoril in the summer of 2019.

His displays for the Leoes this term have impressed a host of Premier League sides including Tottenham, Wolves, Everton and Newcastle who are allegedly monitoring his progress (Record).

O Jogo now report that Spurs are looking to go one step further with their interest and have ‘already enquired’ to Sporting about a potential transfer for Nunes.

It is explained that the Portuguese club have set an asking price of €40 million (£34million) plus performance-related bonuses, which they expect to be met to sanction a move.

Nunes, 23, has already notched more than 40 appearances for Sporting this season (Transfermarkt) and featured prominently as Ruben Amorim’s side bowed out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage to Manchester City.

Spurs Web Opinion

Nunes has been prevalent for Sporting this season and he has emerged as one of Portugal’s most talented midfielders, particularly over the last two campaigns.

It is likely that he will have plenty of interest this summer but he also won’t come at a cheap price as already noted, particularly as his contract is set to expire in four years’ time.
