Report: Tottenham make enquiry for French international midfielder

According to reports from France, Tottenham have enquired about the availability of Lille midfielder Jonathan Ikone, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ikone, who graduated from the PSG academy has come on leaps and bounds since completing a move to Lille two season ago.

He has been a regular in Christophe Galtier’s side since making the switch and his performances have seen him being capped seven times for the French national side (transfermarkt).

Ikone’s versatility has been a major plus for Lille, with the midfielder equally adept at playing through the middle or from either flank.

Everton and Manchester United have previously been credited with an interest in the left-footer (Le Quotidien du Foot).

However, Telefoot journalist Julien Maynard now reports that Spurs, as well as Newcastle, have both asked Lille about Ikone.

The report claims that the Ligue 1 club are willing to cash in on the 22-year-old who is under contract until 2023 if they receive a “considerable” offer.

Ikone’s game is similar to Erik Lamela’s but he is much quicker and arguably a better dribbler than the Argentine. The 22-year-old has impressed me the few times I have seen him in action but the jury is still out of if he is the quality of player we need to improve the side. I see him nothing more as another squad option in an area of the field where we are already fairly well stocked.
