Report: Tottenham make ‘first contact’ with PSG star who is out of contract in the summer

According to a report by French news outlet L’Equipe (as relayed by The Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Angel Di Maria’s representatives over a move to North London when his contract at Paris Saint-Germain runs out in the summer.

Jose Mourinho knows Di Maria well, having managed the Argentine during his three years as Real Madrid boss.

The PSG star has previously spoken in glowing terms about Mourinho, admitting that the Portuguese coach made him a better player.

L’Equipe claims that the 58-year-old wants to reunite with the winger at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the club have already begun talks over a potential move.

The report reveals that PSG are keen on hanging on to Di Maria but the 32-year-old rejected the Ligue 1 giants’ proposed cut to his current wage of £220,000 per week.

The experienced wide man, who previously had an unsuccessful spell at Manchester United, is said to be looking for a two-year contract and it is suggested that he would be willing to move to Spurs if they offer him better terms than PSG.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Di Maria is available on a free transfer, I can see us trying to bring him in as the Argentine is a typical Mourinho kind of forward. Even at 32 years of age, the former Real Madrid man still seems to have plenty of legs. However, there will likely be a long queue of clubs interested in the PSG man’s signature if he is available for free.
