Report: Tottenham make transfer decision on De Ligt following CL heroics

With Toby Alderweireld’s future at the club looking uncertain, Tottenham are said to be interested in adding a central defender to their squad in the summer.

Spurs have been linked with the likes of Everton’s Michael Keane and Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen in recent weeks but one player who Spurs are reported to hold a long-term interest in, is Ajax captain Matthijs De Ligt.

Tottenham have been following the 19-year-old for a couple of seasons now but opted to sign his defensive partner Davinson Sanchez in the summer of 2017.

De Ligt has matured into a fantastic player in the last couple of season and has been a vital part of Ajax’s stellar Champions League campaign so far.

According to a report in the Daily Star, Spurs have now finally given up on hopes of signing the young defender.

The report claims that Tottenham were set to launch a bid for the Dutchman in the summer but have now accepted defeat in the race to sign the £70 million-rated defender who has also been linked with Barcelona.
