Report: Tottenham man donates 10 per cent of his salary to charity

EPSN Brazil have revealed that Richarlison is currently donating 10% of his salary to help fund a home for cancer patients in Brazil.

Tottenham agreed on a transfer fee of £60m with Everton to sign Richarlison in the summer (Sky Sports), and the forward is currently the fifth highest earner on the North London club’s payroll behind Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Ivan Perisic and Cristian Romero, taking home a salary of £133,779 per week (The Sun).

EPSN Brazil have now explained that the 25-year-old is ‘increasingly involved’ in social issues and donates 10 per cent of his salary to a charitable cause.

It is revealed that the money goes into covering the costs of the Father Roberto Lettieri Institute in Brazil, which helps cancer patients who are treated at the Hospital do Amor in Barretos.

Richarlison is said to have made the decision to donate to the institution when he first paid a visit to the institution five years ago after a very important person in his life, Geovana, was diagnosed with cancer.

The Tottenham man is quoted as saying in the report: “Many people don’t know. In Brazil, I have a house in Barretos where there is a cancer hospital.

“There is a house there to help people who don’t have money to stay there. So, there they have free food, everything for free. 10% of my salary goes there to help those people.

“In 2017, one of the most important people in my life had cancer and I saw up close her struggle to heal and return to a normal life.

“Geovana is like my second mother; she is the one who takes care of me every day and does everything to make my days the best they can be.

“She was treated at the Hospital de Amor, in Barretos, which is a reference in cancer treatment in Brazil and serves SUS patients.

“As retribution, since that time, I decided to support the Father Roberto Lettieri Institute, which receives children who are under treatment and their companions, since many people arrive from far away for treatment and cannot always afford to stay in the city.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This story shows exactly why one should not judge the character of professional sportsmen by what they do on the field. Most players are completely different individuals, on and off the field.

It is fair to say that Richarlsion’s on-field antics do not endear him to many opposition fans as the Brazilian pushes the boundary to win. But off the field, it is clear that he is a gem of a person.
