Report: Tottenham man expected to return from injury after international break

The print edition of Marca (20/03/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that there is some optimism at Atletico Madrid that Sergio Reguilon could soon be passed fit.

Reguilon has endured a difficult campaign, having missed a significant chunk of the season owing to injuries.

The Spaniard has also been unable to break into the team when he has been fit, having played just 98 minutes for the club across five appearances, failing to make a single start all season (Transfermarkt).

The 26-year-old has been out of action with a hamstring injury for a little over a month but Marca have now suggested that he might not be too far away from returning to the side.

The report suggests that Atletico hope Reguilon can ‘take advantage’ of the international break to aid his recovery and that the left-back could join in with training alongside his teammates next week.

The report adds that the La Liga club could have the on-loan Tottenham man available for selection for their clash against Real Betis on April 2.

However, it is explained that regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season, Reguilon is expected to return to Spurs in the summer.

With Reinildo Mandava also out injured at the moment, Reguilon will be hoping that he will get some minutes under his belt over the next few weeks if he is able to return to fitness.

The 26-year-old will want to deliver some solid displays to put himself in the shop window ahead of the summer.
