Report: Tottenham man has undergone successful surgery on his ankle

TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that on-loan Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has undergone surgery to fix his ankle issue.

Winks has not been able to make a single matchday squad since his loan move to Sampdoria in the summer due to his ankle injury.

Il Secolo XIX stated last week (as relayed by Football Italia) that the England international was contemplating whether to have surgery to fix the issue, with the report explaining that he would be sidelined for three or four more months were he to go under the knife.

SampNews24 reported a couple of days ago that should the 26-year-old have an operation that keeps him out until February, Sampdoria could re-negotiate the terms of the loan agreement with Spurs.

If TMW’s latest update is to be believed, Winks has now undergone surgery on his ankle. The report explains that the on-loan Tottenham man ‘underwent arthroscopic cleaning of his left ankle’ at the San Rossore Clinic in Pisa this week.

The operation, which was performed by Professor Niek Van Dijk, who was assisted by Sampdoria’s doctor and orthopedist, Angelo Presta, is said to have been successful.

Winks is now expected to start on his ‘rehabilitation phase’ over the coming days.

Spurs Web Opinion

With the benefit of hindsight, Winks would feel that he should have had the surgery much earlier, perhaps even in the summer but it seems like the persistence of the injury has caught everyone by surprise. If the midfielder does stay on Sampdoria, he will be hoping to make an impact in the latter part of the season.
