According to Marca, Tottenham Hotspur are battling Atletico Madrid for Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi this summer.

Disasi has been one of the standout defenders in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons, displaying his versatility by putting in solid performances across the back four.

Tottenham were first linked with a move for the centre-back two years ago when he was at Reims, with The Daily Mail reporting at the time that the North Londoners had sent scouts to France to watch him in action.

Marca have now claimed that the Lilywhites have been following Disasi’s progress for a long time and are set to reignite their interest in the 24-year-old this summer.

The report states that the Premier League club could face competition from Atletico, who are keen to bolster their options at centre-back and have identified the Monaco man as one of their top targets.

Diego Simeone’s side are said to have followed Disasi closely for a few months and have now allegedly made an approach for the centre-back.

However, Marca add that Monaco do not wish to let the former France Under-21 international leave this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I expect Spurs to be in the market for two centre-backs this summer. Not only do we need a left-sided centre-back but with Sanchez and Rodon potentially leaving, we also need an additional defender (apart from Tanganga) to cover for Dier and Romero. Disasi would fit the bill, given his versatility.
