Report: Tottenham may have to compete with half of the PL for 19-year-old

Dean Jones has revealed in his column for GiveMeSport that Tottenham Hotspur could face competition from up to 11 other Premier League clubs for Bristol City starlet Alex Scott in the summer.

The report reveals that Spurs and Newcastle United are among the clubs to enquire about Scott’s availability over recent weeks.

Jones explains that the prospect of a summer bidding war for the 19-year-old now looks likely, with the number of admirers growing by the day.

With Bristol currently languishing in 13th place in the Championship table, they are said to be accepting of the fact that the midfielder is likely to leave.

It is revealed that Nigel Pearson’s men hope to get around £30m for Scott’s services in the summer and could look to sell him to clubs who would consider loaning the player back out to Ashton Gate for another year in order to continue his progress.

Jones reveals that apart from Spurs, the likes of West Ham, Wolves, Brighton, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Everton, Leicester and Newcastle have all enquired about Scott at different times.

In addition, Burnley, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough are also thought to be considering him an option in case they are promoted to the Premier League next season.

The option of signing young players and loaning them back out so that they can continue their development is a formula favoured by Paratici and could perhaps work to Tottenham’s advantage in the negotiations for Scott.

However, Spurs’ challenge would be to convince the 19-year-old that he can become a key first-team player at N17, particularly given the struggles of Djed Spence since his move.

Appointing a manager like Pochettino or Enrique, who are known for promoting youth, could help in that regard.
