Report: Tottenham may now have competition in Samuel Iling-Junior race

CalcioMercato have revealed that Marseille now look set to challenge Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Juventus winger Samuel Iling-Junior.

Over the last couple of weeks, several outlets have reported that Spurs are leading the race to sign Iling-Junior, who is expected to leave Juventus in search of regular game time (Evening Standard).

Multiple sources have also suggested over the last few days that the 20-year-old is most likely to head back to England in January (Fabrizio Romano – Kick).

Marseille enter race with Spurs for Iling-Junior

However, CalcioMercato have now reported that a move to Ligue 1 could open up for Iling-Junior, with Marseille now having expressed interest in the attacker.

The report explains that while Spurs have been ‘studying’ the prospect of making an offer for the 20-year-old, the French club’s interest in the player could also become ‘concrete’ over the coming weeks.

The outlet puts Juventus’ valuation of Iling-Junior at a higher fee than what we have heard from other sources, stating that the Old Lady hope to raise €20m-€25m (£17m-£21.4m) from the attacker’s sale.

CalcioMercato assert that the price could prove prohibitive for Marseille but adds that Gennaro Gattuso’s men like the player’s profile and are currently making internal assessments over a move.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham will be able to offer a bigger fee than Marseille and would also be able to offer Iling-Junior a bigger pay package. Additionally, one would assume that the youngster would be inclined towards returning to England.
