The Daily Mail have claimed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is hesitant to sign a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
It was first reported by The Sun at the start of June that Hojbjerg’s future at Tottenham is in doubt since the midfielder is not seen as a good stylistic fit for Ange Postecoglou’s front-footed, possession-based approach.
This claim was subsequently backed up by 90 min (June 14), with the outlet stating that Spurs were willing to listen to offers for the Dane.
Last week, we covered a report from TuttoMercatoWeb which suggested that Atletico Madrid are locked in negotiations with Tottenham for the midfielder, with Diego Simeone’s men said to consider the player a priority target.
Hojbjerg in unsure about signing a new Spurs deal
The Mail have now backed up Atletico’s interest in Hojbjerg and also confirm that Spurs are ready to offload the 27-year-old.
They also offer an additional reason why the Lilywhites are now open to selling the former Southampton man.
The publication states that the midfielder, who has two years left on his current deal at Spurs, is now ‘unsure’ about putting pen to paper on a contract extension at N17.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Hojbjerg was willing to sign a new deal, I suspect Postecoglou would be happy to keep him around as a squad player and would give the midfielder a chance to adapt to his system.
However, if the 27-year-old does not want to extend his contract, now is undoubtedly the right time to sell him as his market value remains quite high.
