TuttoJuve have named Tottenham Hotspur among the ‘main contenders’ to snap up Juventus centre-back Merih Demiral this summer.
Demiral was rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar during last summer’s transfer window and Alasdair Gold suggested once again in January on the Last Word On Spurs Podcast that the club were considering a move for the Turkish defender.
However, the centre-back stayed put at the Allianz Stadium, where he has largely been consigned to a bit-part role this season.
TuttoJuve claim that Spurs could make another attempt to sign Demiral when the transfer window reopens.
However, the report suggests that the Lilywhites could face some stiff competition for the Juve man, who is also said to be interesting Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Everton and Atletico Madrid.
Despite the amount of interest the young defender is attracting, it is said that the Serie A giants are yet to receive an offer for him.
Spurs Web Opinion
It does sound like Demiral has been on Tottenham’s radar for a while. He very much fits the profile of signing that the club usually go for since he would be relatively inexpensive and has the potential to grow into a valuable asset in the coming years.
I very much doubt that Mourinho would have been on board with signing the youngster as the Portuguese coach would have likely prefered an experienced campaigner like Skriniar. However, with Jose now gone, I can see us going for a centre-back of Demiral’s profile.
