Report: Tottenham no longer favourites to sign this goalkeeper this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, after sources suggest the North London club are no longer in ‘pole position’ to land the England international in the summer.

Henderson came through the Manchester United academy and developed through the youth teams there, but has spent most of his career out on loan at other clubs.

The keeper rose to prominence during his spell with Sheffield United, helping them secure promotion from the Championship in the 2018/19 season.

He was then instrumental in helping the Blades stay in the Premier League the following year.

Henderson then returned to Manchester United for the 2020/21 campaign, but failed to make an impact at his parent club. He has made just 29 appearances for the Red Devils in total (Transfermarkt).

There is thought to be no future for Henderson at Manchester United, and Spurs have been monitoring his situation as a result (ESPN).

Henderson, currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, is expected to be one of the names on Tottenham’s shortlist to take over from Hugo Lloris as the number-one goalkeeper at Spurs, but there is also interest from Chelsea and Forest (Football Insider).

Now, it appears Tottenham may have slipped down the pecking order when it comes to securing Henderson’s signature this summer.

That’s according to the latest from Football Insider sources, who suggest Spurs are “no longer in pole position” to sign the 26-year-old.

Apparently, Manchester United will accept offers of around £30 million for Henderson.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’ve always been a fan of Dean Henderson, and while there are better options out there, I do think he would be a good purchase for us.

I’d personally prefer someone like David Raya, but I would not be unhappy to see Henderson as our new number one.
