Report: Tottenham ‘not hopeful’ of transfer situation for World Cup winner

According to a report in Football Insider, Tottenham have made another attempt to sign striker Fernando Llorente for a year but still remain doubtful that they can secure the deal.

Tottenham reportedly made the approach after their defeat against Newcastle United after manager Mauricio Pochettino became convinced that he needed an alternative option upfront.

The report claims however that the 34-year-old is not keen to return to with Spurs as he already has an offer on the table from Napoli while Inter Milan are also said to be holding a strong interest.

Llorente is said to be tempted by the prospect of a major role at a Serie A club instead of playing second fiddle to the likes of Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min at Spurs.

The Daily Mail reported a few days ago that Pochettino was now worried about the lack of tactical alternatives upfront if the club fails to convince Llorente to sign an extension.

Llorente proved last year that he can be a useful option off the bench when the team is chasing a game. I believe the 34-year-old would prove a valuable addition to the squad particularly if there is another injury crisis in the forward positions. So let’s hope that the club can somehow convince the striker to sign an extension.
