Report: Tottenham now the ‘firm candidate’ to complete centre-back signing

Tottenham are now the frontrunners to sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet and hope to reach an agreement with the Frenchman in the coming days, according to Sport

Spurs have been tipped to acquire a left-sided centre-back this summer with Lenglet thought to be one name on their shortlist of targets (The Athletic).

ESPN recently claimed the 27-year-old is surplus to requirements at Barcelona, who have been attempting to persuade him of a potential move to Spurs.

Mundo Deportivo (21/06/22 via Sport Witness) also explained that while the Blaugrana are keen to achieve a permanent sale, they would be content with loaning him out providing his full salary is covered.

A new update from Sport has now claimed Tottenham are the ‘firm candidate’ to complete a loan deal for Lenglet, with Barcelona now focused on sealing him a move to north London.

It is explained that Spurs are hoping to complete the move in the coming days with Lenglet expected to attain a lower salary than what he currently earns at the LaLiga club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Lenglet on loan wouldn’t be the worst option considering Spurs aren’t committing to anything, but it wouldn’t exactly be the best choice either.

It could be something to fall back on if they cannot complete moves for other players, but it is still relatively early days in the window so we have to keep waiting to see what develops.
