Report: Tottenham offered chance to sign experienced English striker

The Daily Mail report that Watford have offered Tottenham Hotspur the chance to sign Troy Deeney after their relegation from the Premier League this season.

The report claims that the Hornets are looking to offload many of their big earners, including Deeney, ahead of their upcoming season in the Championship.

The striker has reportedly been offered to Jose Mourinho’s side, who are said to be interested in signing him as a back up to Harry Kane.

The report reveals that the North Londoners want to sign the 32-year-old on a loan deal and have already held talks with Watford regarding the possibility.

It remains to be seen whether a loan will be viable as the experienced striker has only a year to run on his contract at Vicarage Road.

It is claimed that Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson is also on Tottenham’s radar following the Cherries’ relegation but the Lilywhites view Deeney as a cheaper option.

Spurs Web Opinion

Deeney could have been a decent acquisition a couple of years ago but some of his performances for the last two seasons have been quite poor. Of course, playing as a striker for a side who are struggling is not easy but there are clear signs that the 32-year-old is on the decline. Having said that, he could still come and be a useful option for us like Fernando Llorente was.
