Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tottenham offered Romaine Mundle a new contract that would have kept him in North London until 2025, but the youngster rejected the deal.
The journalist claims that Standard Liege are the current favourites to sign Mundle on a free transfer now that he has departed N17, however, the starlet has received ‘several bids’.
It appears that Mundle prioritised first-team football opportunities when making his decision this summer, and Spurs have struggled to create a clear pathway from the academy in recent years.
It was first reported by Voetbalkrant that the 20-year-old had turned down a Tottenham stay and had been ‘charmed’ by a tour of the Standard Liege facilities.
However, Belgian outlet Le Soir then reported (as relayed by Walfoot) that Standard Liege were at risk of losing out to Utrecht in the race for Mundle’s signature.
According to Romano, it looks to be Standard who are still leading the pursuit though.

Spurs Web Opinion:
Another gem of the academy leaving for nothing, and you cannot blame him one bit. If you can’t create a clear pathway to become a first-team player, then it’s only logical that the top youngsters will leave. We saw it was Marcus Edwards, Noni Madueke, and now Mundle too.
