Tottenham are reportedly offering young striker Kion Etete in a potential swap deal for Northampton Town forward Caleb Chukwuemeka (Football Insider).
The 19-year-old broke into Northampton’s first team in the 2020/2021 season, playing 22 games in League One – scoring one goal and grabbing one assist.
The Cobblers ultimately got relegated after finishing 22nd, only putting up 45 points and, as a result, will play their football in League Two next season.
Chukwuemeka is currently on a scholarship contract that expires next summer in 2022, and Northampton’s attempt to offer him a professional contract has reportedly been turned away as he seeks a club higher up the football pyramid.
Tottenham signed Etete from Notts County in 2019 after he impressed in a trial earlier that year.
The 19-year-old has impressed at youth level for Spurs, scoring nine goals in 21 games in the Premier League 2 during the 2020/2021 season, so it might come as a bit of a surprise that Spurs are reportedly willing to offload the striker.

Etete does seem like a really good talent – a big presence who has a nice eye for goal. A loan may be the best thing for his development.
Letting him go may be a mistake. However, Chukwuemeka also seems a real talent that has been exposed to EFL football early. The EFL has a lot of talents lurking in the shadows and it is smart to make the most of that.
