The print edition of Correio da Manha (17/05/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that officials from Tottenham will travel to Portugal this weekend, with the N17 club said to have their eye on Ruben Amorim and two Sporting Lisbon players.
The report states that representatives from Spurs are expected to attend Sporting Lisbon‘s big derby against Benfica on Saturday.
One of the main reasons is thought to be that the Lilywhites want to take a closer look at the Lions’ ‘team dynamics’ as Ruben Amorim remains on their wishlist to replace Antonio Conte.
In addition, Tottenham are also expected to run the rule over their former player, Marcus Edwards, as well as winger Pedro Goncalves.
The publication states that Tottenham are aware that they need to meet the release clause of all three to prise them away from Sporting, with Amorim’s standing at €20m (£17.3m), Edwards’ at €60m (£52.1m) and Goncalves’ at €80m (£69.5m).
Interestingly, the report makes no mention of Manuel Ugarte, who has also been heavily linked with a move to Spurs over recent months (O Jogo – 29/04/23 via Sport Witness).

It is worth remembering that Tottenham still have a 35 per cent sell-on clause on Marcus Edwards, despite giving up a percentage of that during the negotiations for Pedro Porro in January.
Signing a quality, homegrown player on a discount is something that might well appeal to the Spurs hierarchy, given that we need attacking reinforcement to replace Lucas Moura and Arnaut Danjuma.
