Report: Tottenham one of several clubs keeping tabs on Danish midfielder

CalcioMercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs across Europe who hold an interest in Lecce midfielder Morten Hjulmand.

Hjulmand was an unknown quantity when Lecce snapped him up from the Austrian club Admira Wacker in January of last year, and the 23-year-old did not take long to make an impression, playing a key role in helping the club win promotion to the Serie A last season.

The midfielder has been Lecce’s most consistent performer in the Italian top-flight this season, having registered five assists across all competitions in 2022-23.

CalcioMercato claim that Tottenham have sent scouts to Stadio Via del Mare this season to run the rule over Hjulmand while Borussia Dortmund’s representatives have also done the same.

The report adds that the Dane is also of interest to Napoli and AS Roma, who have both allegedly contacted Lecce to enquire about the player’s availability.

CalcioMercato also reveal that Southampton presented an offer of €13m (£11.4m) for Hjulmand towards the end of the January transfer window but the bid was turned down.

It is asserted that Lecce expect the defensive midfielder to be ‘among the most sought-after players’ of the summer transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is not surprising that Tottenham are among the clubs who are tracking Hjulmand, given that Paratici keeps a close eye on the best-emerging talent in Italian football.

Whether or not Spurs choose to spend big on a midfielder in the summer could depend on how Sarr and Skipp perform over the next couple of months, in the absence of Bentancur and Bissouma.
