Report: Tottenham one of several PL clubs looking at Middlesbrough starlet

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on the progress of Middlesbrough starlet Hayden Hackney.

Hackney has come on leaps and bounds over the last 18 months, having established himself as one of the best young midfielders across the Championship.

The technically proficient 21-year-old, who can operate as a six or a number eight, is now seemingly catching the attention of several top-flight clubs.

Spurs are watching Hayden Hackney closely

The Mail reveals that Tottenham are one of the clubs keeping an eye on the Hackney, with the North London club alleged to have sent scouts to run the rule over the youngster this season.

The report adds that the England Under-21 international is also on the radars of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

However, the expectation is that the midfielder is more likely to leave next summer rather than in January, with the player keen on seeing out the rest of the season at the Riverside Stadium.

The publication adds that while Boro are relaxed about Hackney’s future for the time being, they accept that he will move on if they fail to win promotion to the Premier League.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs should be able to convince Hackney that his development would be best served at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, given Postecoglou’s track record of developing young players.

However, the 21-year-old might feel that he would be better off having a stepping stone at a club like Forest, where is he more likely to get regular game time.
