Report: Tottenham ‘open preliminary talks’ to sign £10m-valued wing-back

Tottenham have opened talks to sign Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence, according to Football Insider.

The 21-year-old, currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, has long been a target of multiple Premier League sides having impressed this term (Sky Sports).

Spurs attempted to sign the young wing-back in January but saw their attempts fail with parent club Middlesbrough keen on securing a fee in the £15 million range (90min).

But the North London side could now make another approach to sign Spence and step up their pursuit with the opening of the summer transfer window around the corner.

Football Insider claim Tottenham have already made preliminary contact with Spence and his representatives to seal a potential deal worth around £10 million ahead of next season.

The report adds Spurs are keen to land the wide man quickly to fend off competition in the English top flight, with Arsenal named as another interested party.

Spence has enjoyed a stellar campaign with Forest and played a key role in the club’s push for promotion under Steve Cooper.

He has made 49 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt) and is gearing up to play his final match of the season in the Championship play-off final against Huddersfield on Sunday.

Spence has taken great strides this season so there will be plenty of teams lurking to see whether they can land one of the Championship’s most talented young players.

If Spurs are as keen on him as reported, then they should look to move quickly to avoid being swarmed by other clubs who may also have an interest.
