Report: Tottenham open talks with forward over a new contract

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Dane Scarlett over a new contract.

Scarlett signed his first professional contract with Spurs in March of last year and the striker has progressed impressively since then.

The 18-year-old has made ten senior appearances for the Lilywhites (Transfermakrt) and has been a regular in Tottenham’s matchday squads over recent months.

Antonio Conte praised the teenager last month, labelling him ‘a really important prospect’ for the club (Football.London).

Scarlett found the back of the net twice for England’s Under-19s during the international break and Alasdair Gold has suggested that Spurs could consider letting the youngster go out on loan next season (Football.London).

Football Insider have now revealed that Spurs are keen to tie down Scarlett’s future and have opened talks with the academy graduate over a new contract.

The report explains that negotiations between Tottenham and the player’s entourage are now underway, with the striker expected to get a major pay hike as a reward for his development over the past 12 months.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs opening talks with Scarlett’s representatives over a new contract suggests that Conte has been impressed with the youngster and sees him as a future first-team prospect.

If Tottenham do sign a striker this summer to serve as Kane’s backup (which you would expect them to), I would not be surprised to see Scarlett being loaned out to a League One club.
