Report: Tottenham plan to sell ‘difficult’ player and poor trainer in summer

Tottenham are willing to wait until the summer to offload Dele Alli, according to Football Insider.

The club had reportedly been looking for potential suitors for the 25-year-old during the last transfer window but were not confident of securing the fee they desired.

Alli was also rumoured to be close to securing a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain last January which would have seen him reunited with former manager Mauricio Pochettino, but a deal failed to materialise.

Sources have now reportedly told Football Insider that Spurs are likely to revisit the plan to sell Alli, but will hold off until the end of the season to do so.

Alli’s form in recent seasons has dropped massively due to injuries and changes to Spurs’ system, which would have ultimately caused his value to fall too.

The club are reportedly gambling on the fact he may improve throughout the course of the season to rebuild the value he had lost and hopefully strike a deal with a side in the summer.

That may be tricky, though, as sources have also added that Alli can be a difficult player to manage behind the scenes, as well as being inconsistent during training.

The two-time PFA Young Player of the Year endured a tough campaign last season starting just seven games in the Premier League and making 29 appearances in all competitions.

Spurs head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has found a regular role for Alli this season, starting him in all six league games so far in a slightly deeper midfield position.

Spurs Web Opinion

Alli looks like a shadow of the player that we saw during his first three seasons at the club. His development hasn’t progressed as it should have, but the blame isn’t solely down to him. While some may question his attitude, injuries have affected him as well as structural issues in the team, which Spurs have failed to address.
