Emerson Royal has become the latest Tottenham Hotspur player to be targeted by the Saudi Pro League, with Al Nassr thought to have launched a bid for the full-back. That bid has been rejected, and it seems Royal himself is happy about that.
Since signing from Barcelona back in the summer of 2021, Emerson Royal has endured something of a rollercoaster ride when it comes to the consensus on his performances and ability.
The Brazilian struggled in Antonio Conte‘s system, and appeared unable to fulfil the role of a wing-back to a suitable standard. With this in mind, there were calls among the Spurs fanbase for the player to be moved on.
However, now under Ange Postecoglou, Royal is thriving, and has displayed just how versatile and valuable he can be to this squad. The 25-year-old has played across the entire back four this season, covering for injuries and suspensions, and his efforts have been admirable.

Emerson Royal wants to stay at Spurs
It was revealed just yesterday that Tottenham had received, and rejected, an offer from Al Nassr for Royal. But, it is thought the Saudi club will return with an improved offer (Tom Barclay).
However, they may have difficulty persuading Royal to join them, it seems. That’s according to the latest from talkSPORT, who claim Royal is happy playing under Postecoglou and does not want to leave North London.
Apparently, the club are happy with Royal’s efforts and “do not want to lose him”, Postecoglou is known to hold an “appreciation” for Royal’s value to the squad, and the player himself is keen to stay put.
Whether Al Nassr do return with an improvement on their initial £21million (€25m) offer remains to be seen, but it could all be in vain.
Spurs Web Opinion
I will be the first to admit I was crying out for Emerson Royal to leave the club last year, but fair play to him, he has worked incredibly hard and more than proven his worth over these last couple of months by doing what is needed to help the team. He may only be a backup player, but we’d be foolish to sell right now.
