Report: Tottenham player emerges as transfer target for Southampton

According to The Daily Mail, Harry Winks has emerged as a transfer target for Southampton this summer.

Winks struggled to break into Antonio Conte’s midfield last season, making only nine Premier League starts for Tottenham (TransferMarkt).

Midfielders Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Oliver Skipp were all favoured over Winks in the Spurs midfield and the summer addition of Yves Bissouma from Brighton is unlikely to improve his playing time next campaign (Sky Sports).

Having not travelled to Spurs’ pre-season tour of South Korea on Saturday, along with Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, and Sergio Reguilon, Sky Sports understand that the quartet are now being encouraged to find new clubs this summer.

Winks, 26, has previously been linked to a reunion with Dele Alli at Everton (Sky Sports), whilst Leeds United have also been credited with an interest in the central midfielder (Liverpool Echo).

However, Ralph Hassenhuttl is looking to bolster his midfield options this window and is reportedly keen to swoop for the Spurs academy graduate (Daily Mail).

Spurs Web Opinion

I feel as though it is the right time for Winksy to move on. It is clear that Conte prefers other options in the centre of the park and still only 26, the player deserves to be playing regularly. Winks’ ball retention abilities would make him a solid addition to a number of Premier League clubs.
