Report: Tottenham player is finally close to a return from injury out on loan

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has admitted that Djed Spence is now nearing a return to full fitness.

Unlike Joe Rodon, who has established himself as a regular in the Leeds backline since his switch to Elland Road, Spence has only made one substitute appearance for the Championship club so far this season.

The right-back would have been hoping to rediscover the kind of impressive form he showed for Nottingham Forest during the 2021-22 season but a knee injury has curtailed his progress.

Spence will be keen to make an impression at Leeds on his return as he attempts to get his career back on track after a disappointing 18 months, and Farke has now revealed that the on-loan Tottenham man will be back in training within the next couple of weeks.

However, the German pointed out that the 23-year-old would be eased into the team slowly as he will need some time to get full match fit.

Djed Spence is finally close to returning from injury

Farke said about Spence (via Football.London): “Djed is also in the last stages of his rehab. I hope both of them, Stuart [Dallas] and Djed can return back to team training pretty soon.

“Then I guess Djed was also out for about eight weeks, so it’s not like the first day back in team training he’ll be available for the game, he also needs a bit of training, but I hope that’s pretty soon, in the next days.

“Perhaps 10 days, 14 days that he will return back to team training but he hasn’t joined us yet.”

I get the feeling that Ange has already made his mind up that Spence is not a good fit for his system. So, the 23-year-old is likely playing at Leeds with the hope of impressing potential suitors from the Premier League ahead of next summer.

Ideally, he would perhaps be hoping that Leeds will bounce straight back up and that he can do enough to convince the Elland Road hierarchy to buy him permanently at the end of the season.
