Report: Tottenham player makes Garth Crooks’ PL Team of the Week

Garth Crooks has named Harry Kane in his Premier League Team of the Week following Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in North London (BBC).

Kane, who has been Tottenham’s shining light in an otherwise disappointing season, headed home his 26th goal of the Premier League season against the Eagles just before half-time.

It was a momentous goal for the England captain as he overtook Wayne Rooney on the all-time scoring charts, netting his 209th career goal in the competition.

If not for Erling Haaland’s near-superhuman numbers this season, Kane’s 26 Premier League goals in 35 games would have been heralded as a special campaign.

Kane started the move for Spurs against Palace with a superb touch and spinning cross-field ball out to Pedro Porro, who completed the one-two with a pin-point cross onto his captain’s head.

Here’s what Garth Crooks had to say about Tottenham’s main man: ‘It’s difficult to leave Harry Kane out of my team, having scored the winning goal against Crystal Palace, which brings him closer to Alan Shearer’s Premier League record, and then clears a certain equaliser off the line.

‘Neither can you ignore the fact that he has somehow remained utterly professional amid an avalanche of mismanagement and chaos at the heart of his football club.

‘Three managers have taken charge of his dressing room in a matter of weeks, which means they almost certainly will not finish in the top four when at one point they looked nailed on.

‘Spurs are no nearer finding a replacement for Antonio Conte than they were the moment he walked out the door. Yet you wouldn’t know any of that when watching Kane.

‘The England captain is the consummate professional and that is why he is in my team.’

Spurs Web Opinion:

Harry Kane has dragged Tottenham kicking and screaming at times this season, and once again he does not get the credit he deserves from rival fans.

Hopefully, he agrees to sign a new deal and rivals can continue to underrate him while he gets countless goals against them for years to come.
