Report: Tottenham player undergoing surgery today on injured hamstring

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is to undergo surgery today after he was ruled out of Argentina’s World Cup squad.

Lo Celso was left out of Tottenham’s pre-season plans during the summer by Antonio Conte and joined Villarreal on a season-long loan deal, which does to include an option to make the deal permanent.

The midfielder sustained a hamstring injury during Villarreal’s La Liga loss against Athletic Bilbao on October 30th and scans confirmed that the midfielder suffered a hamstring tear (AS).

Argentine news outlet Todo Notícias have claimed that Lo Celso tried all available scenarios to avoid undergoing surgery to keep his hopes of representing Argentina in Qatar later this month but has now had to go under the knife in Finland in a bid to rectify the injury.

It is reported that Argentina decided against naming him in their 26-man squad since he would not have been available until the latter stages of the tournament and had no choice but to have the operation instead.

Tottenham will be hoping that Lo Celso can have a strong end to the season for Villarreal once he has returned from injury, with it clear that he has no future in north London while Antonio Conte is in charge.

A big-money signing from Real Betis, he failed to impress at Spurs aside from a few good games during January 2020 and his future has to lie away from the club.
