Report: Tottenham player’s future is ‘more open than ever’ after 50th international cap

Mundo Deportivo and Sport have both discussed Giovani Lo Celso’s future after the midfielder won his 50th cap for Argentine during the international break.

Lo Celso has played a total of just 522 minutes from 15 games for Tottenham this season, managing two goals and two assists in the process (Transfermarkt).

Most of those came when James Maddison was out with an injury earlier this season, with the Argentine finding game time hard to come by over the last couple of months.

However, he did shine for the Albicelestes during the international break, starting for the side in their wins over El Salvador and Costa Rica, even getting on the scoresheet in the former.

Lo Celso’s Tottenham future is up in the air

After winning his 50th cap, Mundo Depertivo quote the Tottenham man as saying: “It’s very nice to reach 50 games, now I’m looking forward to more unforgettable moments and to reach new goals with the national team. Every game is a new opportunity to make history together.”

The publication also points out that Lo Celso is contracted at Spurs until 2025 and suggests that the player is ‘optimistic’ about what the future holds.

Meanwhile, Sport claim that the Tottenham man’s future has to be clarified before the summer, with it now being ‘more open than ever’

It is explained that his next destination could depend on how he finishes the season at North London and how the midfielder performs in Cope America in the summer.

The outlet points out that Lo Celso was on Barca’s radar last summer but there is no mention of whether the La Liga side will reignite their interest in the player.

Lo Celso is guaranteed to be on the move this summer, given his contract situation, with La Liga likely to be his destination. The 27-year-old will be keen to do well in Cope America and might park any transfer talk until after the tournament.
