Report: Tottenham ready to make move for Serie A midfielder in January

According to 90.min.com, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Atalanta midfielder, Marten de Roon during the January transfer window.

De Roon is very much a late bloomer as his reputation has grown in unison with Atalanta over the last three years, with the Dutchman’s performances being one of the key reasons behind the Bergamo doing so well in Serie A and Europe of late.

The 29-year-old is no stranger to English football, having signed for Middlesbrough during the summer of 2016 but he could not help the club to stay in the Premier League.

Atalanta re-signed the midfielder after Boro’s relegation that season and he has since evolved into one of the most talented defensive midfielders in the Serie A.

90 min report that De Roon is also on Manchester City’s radar but Pep Guardiola’s side are unlikely to make an offer for him until the summer.

However, they claim that Jose Mourinho is keen to bring the Holland international to Spurs next month in order to give his squad an extra boost in the title race.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have been linked with multiple defensive midfielders over the last couple of months, which certainly makes sense if Jose Mourinho’s is going to continue utilising a double pivot. Sissoko is very much a makeshift option in the role and player like De Roon would be an upgrade over the Frenchman, not only in terms of his defensive awareness but also when it comes to his ability on the ball.
