Report: Tottenham ready to offer £1m plus player in exchange for starlet

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are offering Kion Etete plus £1m to Northampton Town as part of a potential deal to bring Caleb Chukwuemeka to North London.

Chukwuemeka broke into Northampton’s first-team last season and went on to make 22 appearances in League One last season.

Although the centre-forward only found the back of the net once, his performances have seemingly caught Tottenham’s eye.

Reports first emerged last week that Tottenham’s scouts had been impressed by the 19-year-old, who was also said to be on the radars of Newcastle and Aston Villa.

Football Insider then revealed that Spurs had also offered Etete as a ‘makeweight’ to sweeten the deal for the League One club. The two clubs were thought to be currently discussing a potential swap deal.

Etete joined the Spurs academy from Notts County back in the summer of 2019 and he has demonstrated a knack for scoring goals in his two years at the club.

The striker was a regular for Spurs Under-23s last season, scoring nine goals from 26 matches at that level.

However, it looks as though the youngster could potentially be on his way to Northampton, with Chukwuemeka coming the other way.

I suspect that Spurs have offered Etete on loan to Northampton rather than permanently. It would make little sense for the club to ship him out after the season that the former Notts Couty youngster had.
