Report: Tottenham ready to talk to PL player who could soon be a free agent

Tottenham Hotspur are keen to add another centre-back to their roster and are now preparing talks with Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, who will be a free agent come the end of the season.

Despite already having Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and new signing Radu Dragusin to choose from, it seems Spurs are not content with their defensive options.

Romero and van de Ven appear to be an unbreakable partnership right now, with Dragusin struggling for minutes since his arrival from Genoa in the January transfer window.

However, in a season that has seen Emerson Royal and Ben Davies fill in at centre-back due to injury issues, it’s understandable that Ange Postecoglou would be eager to prevent that situation from occurring again next term.

Spurs have been linked with Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly for months now, and last month it was revealed that the 25-year-old would not be signing a new contract with the Cherries (TEAMtalk).

Tottenham will talk to Lloyd Kelly soon

Now, the latest from Football Insider sources suggests Spurs are lining up an approach for Kelly ahead of arranging a free transfer for the summer, and that the player has already rejected multiple offers from his current club to stay put.

It is thought Kelly’s reluctance to commit to Bournemouth has “opened the door” for Spurs and other clubs to speak to the defender about moving on in the summer.

The report adds that Newcastle United, Liverpool, Juventus, AC Milan, and a number of Bundesliga sides are also monitoring the situation.

However, Spurs see him as a “strong option” for next season, and conversations could commence sooner rather than later.

Lloyd Kelly is a great defender, and would definitely suit what we are looking for. I’m just worried about his injury record this season, but hopefully, that’s just a one-off.
