Report: Tottenham receive boost regarding Micky Van de Ven injury

The Evening Standard have reported that Tottenham are confident Micky Van de Ven will not require surgery on his hamstring injury, although it is still unclear how long he will be out for.

Alasdair Gold revealed yesterday that Micky van de Ven could not even walk after injuring his hamstring against Chelsea.

Tottenham are still licking their wounds from the events that unfolded on Monday night, with a nine-man Spurs side being on the receiving end of a 4-1 loss to their London rivals.

Apart from the suspensions of Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero, Ange Postecoglou may also face being without both Van de Ven and James Maddison, both of whom came off injured in the first half.

The Tottenham head coach revealed after the game that Maddison sustained a knock on his ankle but admitted that the Dutchman’s injury seemed a lot more significant (Football.London).

Micky Van de Ven will not need surgery at Spurs

We have not received official confirmation yet on the severity of Van de Ven’s injury and how long he would be out but Gold’s update after the match did not seem promising, with the journalist remarking that he was at a loss as to why the centre-back was not stretchered off.

He said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “When we watched him he was sort of walking around the pitch, and he couldn’t really walk. We were both saying ‘why are they not helping him?’ That was a player who probably needed to go off on a stretcher to be honest.”

Fortunately, the Standard have now reported that Van de Ven is unlikely to require surgery and will be able to do his rehabilitation with the staff at Hotspur Way instead. However, we still need to wait to get an exact timeline on his return.

There is no doubt in my mind that Van de Ven is going to be out for a minimum of six weeks. The Dutchman’s injury has been compounded by the fact that Romero will miss the next three matches. The last thing Postecoglou needed was for both of his centre-backs to be unavailable at the same time.
