Report: Tottenham receive important injury update on Pape Matar Sarr

It has today been confirmed that Pape Matar Sarr will indeed travel to the Ivory Coast to join the Senegal squad for the African Cup of Nations, after the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was passed fit to play.

Pape Sarr has enjoyed an incredible first half of the season under new manager Ange Postecoglou, after finally been given a real chance to show what he is capable of.

The young midfielder was left on the fringes of the Spurs squad during Antonio Conte’s time at the club, but this season he has made 19 appearances already, and has two goals and two assists to his name (Transfermarkt).

Sarr has proved to be a key player in the resurgent Tottenham side, and was recently rewarded with a new bumper contract keeping him at the club until 2030.

Pape Sarr is not injured

The 21-year-old was celebrating again last weekend when he scored the first goal in the win over Bournemouth, but was forced off the field in tears shortly after with an apparent injury.

However, fears that Sarr would miss out on the AFCON this year have been allayed by a report from the Standard confirming he has not picked up an injury and will head out on international duty for the tournament.

Despite a “hamstring scare” at the weekend, Sarr has now been “passed fit” and travelled to the Ivory Coast earlier today to join the Senegal squad for the tournament.

Sarr and his country will be looking to retain their AFCON title, and if they do, Spurs will be without the midfielder until the middle of February.

Spurs Web Opinion

We wish Pape Sarr all the best for AFCON and as much as we don’t want to be without him, it would be brilliant for the youngster to pick up another major international trophy this year.
