Report: Tottenham receive potential boost in pursuit of Inter Milan defender

TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Tottenham target Stefan de Vrij is not too keen to put pen to paper on the contract offered to him by Inter Milan.

Over recent days, multiple publications have named Spurs as one of the favourites to snap up De Vrij, whose contract at the San Siro runs out next summer.

Football Insider reported a few days ago that Antonio Conte had already spoken to the centre-back about a move to the North London club in January, with the report adding that the 30-year-old looks ‘increasingly likely’ to leave the Nerazzurri.

Spurs and Atletico Madrid were named as the front-runners for the Netherlands international’s signature. This has now been backed up by TuttoMercatoWeb, who state that Tottenham and Atletico are ‘observing developments’ regarding De Vrij’s future ‘with interest’.

It is asserted that Simone Inzaghi’s men have now offered the centre-back a two-year contract but the former Lazio man’s response has been ‘lukewarm’.

Spurs Web Opinion

It remains to be seen if this is a negotiating tactic by De Vrij’s entourage to force Inter to make a better offer or if the 30-year-old is indeed tempted by offers from other clubs. I have no doubts that the Dutchman will be near the top of Conte’s wishlist were he to become available in January.
