Report: Tottenham register interest in Italian midfielder

According to a report by CalcioMercato, Tottenham Hotspur have registered an interest in highly-rated Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.

Previous reports have indicated that Jose Mourinho is prioritising reinforcements in central midfield and central defence this month.

A number of midfielders including Marten de Roon and even former Spurs star Luka Modric (before he signed a new deal at Real Madrid) were said to be on Tottenham’s radar this month.

Barella, who has gone from strength to strength since arriving at Inter, is now the latest name to be linked with a move to the club.

After building a name for himself in Cagliari, the 23-year-old initially moved to the San Siro on a season-long loan deal last term and was one of the Nerrazuri’s most consistent performers.

Antonio Conte’s side shelled out €40.5m (£36m) to sign the Italian international on a permanent basis and the deal has certainly proven to be very good value for money as the midfielder continues to shine this campaign.

CalcioMercato now claim that Tottenham want to snap up Barella and are facing competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool for his signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Inter are to sell Barella, they will most certainly be demanding more than the £36m they paid for him. As good a signing as the 23-year-old will be, I cannot see Tottenham being in the position to pay the kind of fee it would take to convince Nerrazuri to sell the midfielder.
