Report: Tottenham reject £15m opening bid – Club expected to return with higher offer

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly turned down a £15m opening bid from Ajax for Steven Bergwijn, but the Dutch side are expected to return with a better offer in the coming days (De Telegraaf).

Fabrizio Romano revealed this week that several clubs had expressed an interest in signing Tottenham winger Bergwijn in January.

Bergwijn, who has struggled for game time under Antonio Conte, has been linked with a return to the Eredivisie, with Ajax credit with interest in the 24-year-old.

The Times have revealed that Erik Ten Hag’s side have identified the Spurs man as a replacement for David Neres, who is expected to leave the Johan Cruijff Arena before the end of January.

However, the report stated that the Dutch club’s loan offer had been rejected by the North London club.

It appears that Ajax have now come in with their opening bid for the winger and will return with an offer over £15m in the coming days, if reports are to be believed.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am surprised by this news as Conte does not have too many options in the forward areas. Perhaps, the Italian wants to initially use Traore as part of the front three before eventually converting him to a right-wing-back by the start of next season.
