Report: Tottenham rekindle interest in potential Hojbjerg replacement

Tottenham Hotspur have rekindled their interest in Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie, according to The Times.

The North Londoners were heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old during his time at AC Milan and he sealed a move to the La Liga giants last summer on a free transfer following the conclusion of his contract.

Diario AS reported earlier this month that Kessie was one of six players that Barcelona boss Xavi was hoping to ship out of the exit before their tour of the USA, however, the Ivory Coast international still remains on the books.

Juventus have been attempting to bring Kessie back to Serie A on an initial loan deal, however, Barcelona are holding out for a fee in order to help balance their books.

Kessie in, Hojbjerg out?

Current Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is being tipped to depart N17 this summer and a transfer to Atletico Madrid is expected to go ahead despite the Premier League side having turned down a £16million bid.

Kessie would be a welcome upgrade for Tottenham’s midfield in place of Hojbjerg, who although a decent player on his day does lack the mobility to get around the pitch and press to the level that Ange Postecoglou is likely to demand from those in the middle of the park.

Spurs are likely to not be the only club, along with Juventus who would jump at the chance to sign Kessie and if our pursuit of a central defender is anything to go by, it could be some time before the recruitment team get their act together.
