Report: Tottenham ‘remain hopeful’ of getting Harry Kane to sign new contract

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be ‘hopeful’ that Harry Kane will commit his long-term future to the club, but all signs point to the star leaving the club either this summer or next.

Kane has been with Tottenham his entire career, aside from a handful of loan spells in his early playing days. He has now amassed 435 appearances for the North London club, scoring 280 goals in the process (Transfermarkt).

Despite a difficult season all around for the Spurs squad, Kane flourished and managed to bag 32 goals in all competitions this term to crown a record-breaking year (Transfermarkt).

Breaking records left, right, and centre is all well and good, but Kane has endured another season without a trophy at Tottenham Hotspur.

With just a year left on his current contract, speculation is mounting that Kane will now look to move on and secure some silverware.

Manchester United are believed to have Kane at the top of their shopping list this summer (Daily Star), while Real Madrid have also now reportedly entered the fray (AS).

The odds are certainly stacked against Tottenham and their chairman Daniel Levy in the battle to keep hold of the talismanic striker, but a report from The Telegraph suggests the club still believes they can prevent Harry Kane from leaving.

Apparently, Tottenham “still remain hopeful” that they can convince Kane to sign a new deal with the club. However, the current situation seems to indicate Kane will “either run down his deal or hope to leave before then.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think at best we have another 12 months of Harry Kane at Tottenham.

Levy isn’t going to sell him domestically, and Kane isn’t going to want to go abroad, so he will stay where he is for now.

And honestly, I would rather lose him for nothing next year than see us attempt to cash in on such an invaluable player.
